The #1 Source for providing the REAL TRUTH about Driver Jobs

How much can you really expect to make in driver jobs?  Can you really earn $100,000 per year driving a truck?  Is it possible to make even $50,000 per year as a professional trucker?  What is the TRUTH about truck driver wages?  Which areas of trucking pays the most money?  What is the best way to get a CDL?

There are alot of questions to be asked by those considering driver jobs.  There are also alot of anwers provided by the endless abyss of the world wide web.  What are the real facts?  What really is the Truth About Trucking?

The facts are, that the average pay for driver jobs fall between $35,000 to $45,000 per year.  The average gross income for an Owner Operator is $100,000 per year.  These are gross incomes.  After taxes and right offs, the owner operator will net an average of $45,000 per year.  There are good truck driving jobs that will provide the truck driver with a very good salary of $50,000 to $65,000 per year, and many of these types of trucking jobs will even allow the driver to be home every night.  However, you must understand that these types of truck driving jobs are given to those truck drivers with years of experience and safe driving skills under their belts.  To expect to come right out of truck driving schools and land one of these high paying trucking jobs, seldom, if ever . . . happens.  Only after years of driving experience, can a truck driver land one of the higher paying truck driving jobs.  This is just the nature of the trucking industry.

One of the best driver jobs in the industry, is gas hauling.  Of course, a HazMat endorsement is required, but many of the petroleum haulers enjoy an average pay of $45,000 to $60,000 per year, and they are home every night.  Other trucking jobs that offer higher truck driver wages are the auto hauling division and over-sized and specialized carriers to name just a few.   Working  locally as a truck driver pulling intermodal freight, also can pay very well, and keep you home every night.  As you can see, though, these higher paying truck driving jobs require a great deal of driving experience and skill.  Do not expect to come right out of truck driving school and be hired for one of these higher paying truck driver jobs.  Generally, this is not reality.

When you are just entering into the trucking industry, you are going to have to "pay your dues" so to speak.  The most important factor is getting that one year of driving experience under your belt.  After this, you will be able to find better trucking companies offering higher truck driver pay.  Once that first year of driving is completed, better trucking job opportunities will open up for you.  Depending on many factors such as the state of the economy, the number of years you have been driving, your safety record and so forth, you will be able to move to a better truck driving job, if the trucking company you are with is not working out.  Most often, this will be the case.

Just remember that you will see and hear about those driver jobs paying $100,000 per year...you will be told that you can make $50,000 to $85,000 per year driving a truck and be home evey night...and these facts can be true.  However, just know that these higher paying truck driving jobs are hard to come by, and they are not the trucking jobs that happen over night.  To have one of these better paying truck driver jobs takes time, experience and skill.  Also, you can imagine that not too many truck drivers quit these types of trucking jobs.  You can make very good money in the trucking industry.  Just be realistic and do not let anyone set your goals too high.  You will have to "pay your dues" and build up your experience and driving skills.
